Who I Am

Hi. My name is Doug Gambardella and I’m a freelance writer and blogger.

I’ve been writing ever since I could scribble on a page. I wasn’t a particularly good writer then – there were a lot of aimless stories about skateboarding turtles – but I was very enthusiastic and fell in love with the creative process of crafting effective messages and images with words. By the time I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing I had developed plenty of technical ability to pair with all that enthusiasm.

In addition to my love of writing, I’ve also developed a passion for all things blog and social media related. I’m constantly working on my own websites and learning every day about the latest tips and techniques on crafting elegant and functional websites, creating excellent content that’s optimized for search engines, and effectively promoting my work through social media.

What I Do

I’ve held multiple positions in sales and marketing as well as employed my web and writing skills within a number of freelance roles. Over the past four years I’ve written a little bit of everything for all kinds of clients, including:

  • Product copy for an online wine retailer
  • Website copy for a fashion consultant
  • Brochures and newsletters for several small businesses and non-profits
  • Blog posts for a translation and language services firm
  • Trivia content for a gaming website

I’ve also developed, designed, and written content for several of my own websites which have received over 20,000 hits in a month. I work primarily with WordPress and find it an extremely versatile content management system. I’ve applied my blogging and website development skills and experience to help multiple clients:

  • Optimize their WordPress sites for speed, advertising, and social media functionality
  • Develop blog content that follows the best SEO practices
  • Create a clean, functional design for their blogs
  • Develop and manage social media profiles

What Is WordDope?

I’ve been using WordPress to create my own websites and publish content to the web for over four years. I’ve also worked professionally as a blogger and helped freelance clients develop and optimize their own WordPress sites. In that time I’ve made plenty of mistakes but have learned a lot of valuable tips and tricks to effectively managing and promoting content on the web. I’m always looking to learn more about crafting the most compelling message possible through blogging, social media, and design.

With WordDope I hope to not only share what I already know and help others but also continue to develop my knowledge of WordPress, SEO, and social media marketing techniques.
